Good day all.
My 1989 31 open has the original 454's with 1200 hours.
The still run well but I am a realist and I know at some point in the not too distant future I will be thinking replacement.
Any ideas on direct replacement and suppliers would be appreciated.
Do I retain the gears, etc are questions I'd like to know.
Not a fan of the newer model full electronic motors due to support issues in BDA.

Assuming you are fresh water cooled 1200 hours isn't a terribly high number of hours depending on how the boat has been run. Not unusual to see 2500-3000 hours on the lower end especially pushing around a relatively light boat. The top end is a different matter and may be due soon but that's a lot easier and cheaper than a repower

Mercruiser 6.2 is a direct replacement engine with similar HP and torque ratings. Transmission is compatible and most likely no need to change props. Guessing $12+K per engine plus installation.

Alternative is to go with a reman long block which will probably be around $2500 each plus install and labor to swap out accessories and manifolds.

Hi Travis
Are you still looking for replacement motors? I have 2x2001(port and starboard) Crusader 7.4l MPI with 1800 hours for sale. Motors were very well taken care of and all maintenance records available. Great Lakes Fresh water use only and 90% of engine time has been spent trolling for salmon. Motors are available complete with Transmissions as well as trolling valves shafs and props if desired. Let me know your thoughts via email or text.

I have an 86 36' Open with 454's. About 4100 hours on them. Had a valve job somewhere around 3000 hours. Just keep the impellers changed and motors cool. Change all fluids as recommended and tune up as required. They should last you a long time.
