Had the same problem, 1996 454XL's in 29 Open. Slight rattle at rear of port engine at idle, my problem was a miss in the in the ignition system. Did a complete tune-up, still there. It wound up being the distributor, new one, problem gone! Apparently when rpm's increased, and distributor advanced, miss disappeared.
