I took my oil coolers, heat exchangers and after coolers to a radiator shop. They soak them in some kind of solution and pressure tested them. There is a whole maintinence procedure for coolers on Boatdiesel.com written by Tony Athens, who I consider the "man" of marine diesels. Been on that site for 3 years now and have learned a lot. Best money I have ever spent on Internet sites. His specialty are 5.9's Cummins RE: Cummins 5.9 transmission oil cooler - YOLO - 03-28-2016 (03-27-2016, 08:12 AM)kurts52 Wrote:(03-26-2016, 10:11 AM)mkreuser Wrote: I have a 32 Open with Cummins 5.9s and want to either clean or replace the transmission oil cooler. I have used Tony's procedure to flush the entire system with great success. I did the same on all of my AC as well. I have recently had my heat exchangers and aftercoolers removed and cleaned by a specialist. I neglected to do the oil coolers at the same time. Yesterday I removed one of the oil coolers and was able to clean it myself. Just used a hose, a piece of soft aluminum wire, and then washed thru some diluted pool acid. MikeK |
