Fresh Water Pumps - bell2132 - 04-05-2016

Just purchased 2002 38 open (new owners). Freshwater pump #1 switch kept tripping and there was no pressure out of galley sink. Bought new flo-jet pump and installed however it fails to prime. Think this was the origination of the the pump burnout before we purchased the boat. Any suggestions on why its not priming?

Also, with only pump #2 running and no open faucets shouldn't their be ample pressure from galley sink..?

Please Help!
Thanks for your input

I have a 2003 38 Open and assume the fresh water systems are the same..... My experience shows you should have sufficient pressure in the system with only 1 of the 2 pumps turned on although the second pump minimizes pulsing of water when more than one faucet is in use..... I encountered a similar problem when there is a minor air leak causing a loss of the prime. It was the result of a twisted gasket which is part of the fresh water strainer located to the left of the 2 fresh water pumps..... The rubber gasket twisted somehow when tightened causing a very small air leak,... The system primed with 1 pump on but didn't keep the prime when 2 pumps were turned on.... Suggest you check to ensure rubber gasket is in there correctly..... M2C

Yep, that's usually the problem. The gasket is installed wrong.
Also check the strainers at the faucet. They often plug with debris.
And check the water tank vent. The screen corrodes and prevents water from leaving the tank. An easy check is to leave the fill  cap off.
I always remove the water tank screen, it's only necessary for the fuel tank.

Great thanks for the input!
I'll check it out this weekend when I get a chance to head down to the boat and let you know.
