Fish Kill fiberglass cover wanted - Sea Gorda - 03-20-2013 I own a 2001 Tiara 3500 Open with the bench seat at transom. Does anone have the fiberglass piece that was offered instead of the seat? Wanting to set up for fishing. Thank you michaelcapin@gmail.com Fish Kill fiberglass cover wanted - Chris Burkard - 03-21-2013 Michael, The good news is most people want to go from Fish Box Cover to Seat, so there has to be one out there you can swap with. I would also call Tiara Dealers in your area to see if they have run across a 35 ower that is looking to replace their cover with a seat. My very good friends owned a 35 Open (they currently have a 38 Open) and we fished that boat throughout the Florida Keys and Bahamas with the Bench Seat in place. We used a large igloo cooler as a fish box. We caught Dolphin(mahi), Whahoo, Sailfish, Grouper, Snapper and Tuna. The seat did not hinder our ability to fish the boat. We used the fish box below the seat for storage. It was nice using a large cooler as the fish box. When we pulled into the dock, we would carry the cooler down to the cleaning station. It was easier clean up than using the fish box on board. Have a great day! Sincerely, Fish Kill fiberglass cover wanted - trit21 - 03-25-2013 I have a 2000 Tiara 3500 Open with the fish box hatch and love the room it offers. But, I would also agree with Chris that it really is a pain to clean it when the time comes. You have to remove the box filled with ice/water/blood etc and try not to dump any in the aft bilge. Maybe mine just didn't come with the macerator option for the fish box but it really is a pain. I am looking for some way to install a macerator pump or something else to remove and drain the fish box overboard and not in the aft bilge OR I may go the cooler route. Looking for ideas or suggestions as well. IMO. Tom Fish Kill fiberglass cover wanted - Sea Gorda - 03-27-2013 Tom/Chris: I learn well from others experiences. The cooler filled with fish certainly seems quite a bit easier to clean up after a fishing trip. I was able to locate a new (never used cover) and will purchase it. I will however try to fish with the bench seat and see how it goes first. My plans are to add a bait tank to the swim step. Any ideas or thoughts on the placement of the tank? Michael San Diego Fish Kill fiberglass cover wanted - Chris Burkard - 03-28-2013 On my friends 35, we mounted a portable live well in the cockpit on the starboard side I believe. It was something like a 24 gallon tall. We installed a baitwell pump and intake inside the lazarette near the Air-Conditioning pump and ran the line up to a fitting near the live well tank. We installed a quick disconnect fitting much like the freshwater and raw water washdown pumps. We then ran the live well overflow to the aft corner deck drain. We fashioned a custom fitting so the end of the overflow line plugged into the drain. It worked beautifully. We did consider installing it on the platform, but it would have made getting bait out of it much more difficult (due to the curved transom). We also did not want the fill hose going over the transom. The overflow would have been easier however. We did not want to install fasteners, so that when it was removed, there was no evidence. We simply set the tank ontop of shelf liner and filled it. It never moved once filled on the shelf liner. PS - You cannot use the salt water washdown to operate the live well. That pump is desiged for high pressure and not continuous duty. If you do use it, it will burn out in a matter of days. Live well pumps use a mag drive system that is designed for continuous operation (same pump motor/drive as a bilge pump). I looked for pictures of how we had that boat set up, but I can't find any. Good Luck and let us know what you end up doing. Sincerely, Fish Kill fiberglass cover wanted - Sea Gorda - 04-01-2013 Chris: I have a stand alone bait pump plumbed to a fitting on the transom. I plan on mounting the live well on the swim step. Thanks for the information Michael Fish Kill fiberglass cover wanted - Chris Burkard - 04-02-2013 Michael, A transom mounted live well pump will work just fine sitting still and at slow speeds. The only issue with that design is flow at cruising speed. It may not be able to pump water to the livewell when the vessel is at crusing speed. If you run from spot to spot for long runs, you may find your bait dead when you arrive. An internally mounted pump and pickup works regardless of the speed of the vessel and in fact will supply flow at cruising speeds with the pump off due to the water pressure created as the vessel moves through the water. I had a transom mounted pump on my last vessel and we where able to mount it low enough to pick up water at running speeds, but then it was an outboard. Hopefully you can find a spot to mount it that will supply water at faster speeds. Let us know how it works out. Sincerely, |
