Seasonal Maintenance Plan for 6.0L Engines and Gen Set - Tiara3000 - 04-04-2017
Hi All,
I recently purchased a Tiara 3000 which has gas 6.0L Crusaders and a Gen Set and will be kept in Lake Michigan in fresh water. I plan to do the bulk of the maintenance myself and wanted to get input on what else I should be adding to the list of seasonal items. Here is what I have so far...
-Change Engine Oil
-Change Transmission Oil
-Change Gen Oil
-Change Water Pump Impellers
-Inspect Zincs on Hull and in the Heat Exchanger
-Inspect hoses for cracked / leaking
Any other comments / feedback would be welcome.

Not sure if you've got a closed or open cooling system, but if you really want to cover it all and you've got a closed system flushing the cooling system would cover all you engine maintenance items.
A back flush would also give you piece of mind that there is no debris from a bad impellers or lost fins in the system.

Probably a lot that can be added to the list but here are a few of varying importance:
1 replace fuel filter/water seps
2 Cycle the ball valves on all of your intakes to make sure they operate freely
3 check/clean battery connections
4 check for play in your strut bearings
5 check for play in your steering tie bar (just checked mine and found one destroyed rod end)
6 clean out sea strainers
7 manually trip each bilge pump float switch
8 visually inspect hose clamps and belts
If you have ever gotten a uscg safety inspection they left behind a checklist. I like to run through the list before launching (nav lights, fire extinguishers, etc)

The 6.0 is a great engine that doesn't require a lot of annual maintenance. if you don't know the engine history and want piece of mind swapping coolant is always a good idea. otherwise follow crusaders Maintenance intervals and you should experience good reliability.

Thanks Gents! I'm creating an list in Excel so the above points have been added. The Crusader manuals also have a maintenance check list so I plan on going through that in detail too.

I have the same engines in my Tiara 2900. The engine manual says to change the raw water pump impellers every 50 hours. A local mechanic said to change them every 200 hours. I changed one of the engine impellers at about 150 hours and put in a new one. The old one looked good as new so I kept it as a spare and have not changed the other engine's impeller.
