Tiara 3100 shaft seals - REELSTORIES - 04-30-2017

Looking to convert to PSS dripless shaft seals and get rid of the packing setup.

Any idea on the tube size and shaft size?

I know, I can crawl in the bilge and inspect the shaft size but the tube size, I don't think I can get an accurate measurement without pulling the hose off(the boats in the water). Was hoping the tube boot had the size on it, but to my luck, it was cut between markings.

Any help is appreciated, as I'd love to get rid of the drips all together. Pricey conversion but looks like a world of difference.

Check out GFO Gore Tex shaft packing on eBay. I put that stuff in about 5 years ago and have not needed to adjust them since then. It's not like the old flax packing and a heck of a lot cheaper than installing PSS seals. I know everyone is happy with PSS but it's a job installing them. While you are down there consider adding splash guards around the seals. Just take a 3" or 4" x 8" hose and cut it lengthwise and put a clamp on it . That way if you do have some drips they do not spray all over at high speed. Capt. George

Thanks george, I do have the GFO in, I have one shaft that's virtually dripless, the other I haven't adjusted yet this season. I don't think last season I got it 100 percent adjusted on the stbd. My port, good and runs cool with almost zero drips.

I just like the idea of a dry bilge minus deck water that gets in while washing..
