I have a 2000 2900 Tiara Open. Just replaced risers and now having trouble with transmission shifting. Could the two be related somehow?

What are the trannys doing, hard to get in and out of gear. Did you replace risers because of a over heating problem and if so how hot did it get? Check fluid level and color of trans. Do you have the same problem with both or just one?

You may also want to smell the fluid on the dip stick of the trannys and see if it smells burnt.

I replaced the risers because they were over heating. The transmission fluid was recently changed.

I had no problems with the trannys until right after the risers were replaced. I believe it's related because I had the starboard risers changed out first, then started having trouble with starboard tranny. It became progressively harder to get in and out of gear, particularly after the running the boat.

I then changed out the port risers and now having same problem with port tranny. Tough to get in and out of gear.

Wondering if somehow mechanic collapsed the end of the tranny coolers when he was working on the risers?

I would check to see ifthere is any problems with the tranny coolers first and also check to make sure the correct trans. fluid was used to fill.

Did the mechanic re-route the shifting linkage when he pulled the risers? Is your problem in the linkage, or internally? I would check the linkage and the transcoolers.

When the engine is cold and off, disconnect the shift linkage. An easy job. Does the shift lever at the helm now work freely? If so it's a transmission problem. With the linkage still disconnected the shift lever on the transmission should be fairly easy to move from neutral to forward and reverse through the detents. Next we need to know if it is hard shifting only when hot. Capt. George

I'm with Chris and Capt George on this one. Let us know what you find.

Turned out to be a linkage problem. Was able to repair in about 30 minutes after mechanic called Velvet Drive. Thanks for all the help.
