A/c Units - CaptBrett - 07-14-2017 On my 2001 38' Open ......... i think i am starting to have A/c issues..... anyone do a complete replacement? If so? Would love to know what unit you installed and why? Thanks Capt. Brett M. I had two 16K split gas units serving my helm (wife likes it cool). One of the condensing units catrastrophically failed resulting in sea water entering the gas loop. The whose system except the blower fan and thermostat was junk. Instead of paying the extra $ for a new split gas unit I went with a dometic marine air 16k self contained unit. Slid right into the same footprint as the old evaporator core, is nice and quiet, came pre-charged, was easy to install and about 1/4 the price. if you go the route of self contained I would recommend placing the power/control module in the bilge somewhere as the compressor relays have an annoyingly loud click when engaging. RE: A/c Units - Rotor - 07-16-2017 I replaced the unit in my 3600 with this unit from Dometic. Works well, but is sensitive to water flow from an efficiency point of view. I just replaced the 8.5gpm circ pump and what a difference it made! In lower Alabama, or NW FL as some see it, I try to clean the strainer and run a mild acid through the system monthly at least. Weekly clean out on the strainer is best. Out unit runs 24x7x365 and grass, barnacles, and mussels love the inside of the pickup hose and strainer. Keep those clean and the system works great. No loud relays on mine. Fan noise is high, but it is a small unit in a small cabin. Dometic 16,000 btu unit Model - ECD16K Retrofit 410A 115/60/1 "Freon" is serviceable unlike others that cannot be serviced. |
