Help on MAN diesels - Yukon - 04-03-2018 Does any one have experience with MAN diesels? I was wondering about the durability/reliability of these engines, looking at 1995 thru 1999 680 hp engines. The availability of parts in the U.S. and cost of maintaining these compared to Cats or Cummins? RE: Help on MAN diesels - jclark003 - 04-03-2018 Highly recommend you go to boat diesel.com. There is a lot of posts regarding engine reliability, costs, etc including known issues by brand. Mann has had their fair share of issues over the years (as with other brand/models) but specific to those engines i couldn't answer. Generally I was always under the impression that all things equal, Mann are a fair bit higher to maintain than Cat or Cummins. Your true cost of ownership will probably be more dependent on how hard the engines have been run, how well they have been maintained and propped, etc. RE: Help on MAN diesels - Yukon - 04-23-2018 Thanks for the suggestion, I did go to the boat diesel site and was sufficiently scared that I ruled out the MAN powered boat. Looks like CATs are in my future. That site also looks good for general engine info and help also. RE: Help on MAN diesels - jclark003 - 04-23-2018 My Cats have treated me very well. No complaints. Came close to buying a Mann powered boat and was similarly concerned with maintenance costs. I wasn't aware Tiara put Manns in any of their boats. |
