AC thru hole - Coppifan - 07-10-2018

I need to close the thru hull to the AC before I put the boat, 2000 3100, on the lift. Otherwise the water will drain. When I next use the AC, I must re-open the valve to get suction and flow.
Taking that huge store/fish tub out has become increasingly difficult as we get older. It takes two of us. Has anyone found another way?
Suggestions appreciated.

AC thru hole - Misdirection - 07-10-2018

On my last boat (non Tiara) I had a similar problem. Up north when we haul out for the winter and launch we would need to bleed our AC systems of air.

So after the pump I installed a brass T, reconnected the water lines, then off that T installed another 12" hose. Then at the end of that 12" host I installed a brass valve. It was actually a garden hose end with a ball valve in it from Ace Hardware. So when I needed to bleed the line I would open that valve until water came out. AC would run fine after that.

Perhaps you could install a similar valve somewhere closer to the AC unit that would be easier to access. That's my ownly suggestion. I'm not aware of any self priming AC pumps out there any more.

Good Luck and let us know how you make out.

I had air lock issues as well and got tired of opening the top of the strainer to release air. Ended up putting a 3/4" marine check valve in at the thru-hull and that fixed my problem. Not sure if that would hold water if boat is pulled but worth a try. Otherwise Misdirection has a good suggestion. A reinforced hose with shutoff or plug that can reach below waterline will do the trick.

I had a boat with an inaccessible valve. The mtg had a cable / handle set on where I could open and close it from the transom. It worked really well as long as I exercised it. If I left it alone for awhile it would freeze up and I had to remove it and lubricate it.

Google marine remote valve handle. There are plenty of options.
