Bow shore power 50 amp - hookup44 - 11-13-2018
Greetings,
I have a 2002 4100 open and it has a 50 amp shore power receptacle in the bow. I hooked up a 50 amp 125/250v shore power cord and I'm not getting power to the service panel in the salon. I confirmed the breakers are on at the dock and the bow receptacle. I used my neighbor's shore power and cord and still no power.
The boat has another 50 amp shore power connection with an automatic cord reel in the cockpit area. Is there a switch somewhere on the boat that separates the two 50 amp shore power ports?
On a side note, the automatic shore power cord retractor does't work and I can't test this connection. Has anyone had issues with these too? It has 13.5v at the motor. I assume the motor is bad but from the previous owner, it was never used.

Bow shore power 50 amp - Misdirection - 11-14-2018
Can you take the 50 amp cord you planned on using for the bow and plug it into the retractable one (while retracted) to test that circuit?
I'm not familiar with that model, so I'm not sure if the transfer is supposed to be automatic or by a manual switch somewhere.

I own a 2003 38 Open with the auto coiler and assume you are aware there is an auto stop (in limit switch) when the cable is fully retracted (unit is a cablemaster built by Glendenning).... There is a micro switch that stops retrieval to ensure no damage is done when fully retracted. I've attached a portion of the owners manual..... It's possible the limit switch is not working or is preventing the system from working See if it helps to understand the problem. Google "glendenning cablemaster manual" for a full copy..

I have a 50A inlet in the bow locker on my 52. I runs to a Charles automatic transfer switch in the ER. You most certainly have some kind of auto or manual transfer switch or plugging in one cord would energize the other and sparks and shocks would certainly follow. If one 50a inlet works and assuming you don't have multiple 50a inlet selectors on your AC distribution panel, I would be in search of the transfer switch. Following the cable from the cablemaster tub inside the boat will eventually point the way. If not obvious in the ER maybe look behind the AC panel (turn off shore power first).
My transfer switch has a manual override on it in case the automatic system fails. It may be as simple as that. Either way let us know what you find. Best of luck.
