strut backplate gel coat fiberglass cracks - SMM1978 - 05-30-2019
has anyone ever seen this? picture of the strut backplate with cracking around plate, other side same but not as bad....transmission was replaced in 08...2001 38 open
this a big problem??

I don't know the 38 very well but would probably have a surveyor look at that. Have you owned the boat since new? Almost looks like it was grounded or maybe was dropped onto the struts during haul out which over stressed the bottom. I would also drop Tiara customer service a note with the pictures and see what they say. If it is a problem that needs addressing they are pretty good at pointing to qualified yards that are trusted. Maybe other 38 owners have seen this?

Looking to buy it, it’s on both struts but the starboard isn’t as bad...I did send an email to tiara but no response yet
Also if the boat was dropped on the strut I would think the weight of the boat would cause that strut to completely push through the hull??

Have a professional survey done. Especially look to see if there is any moisture in that area. I would be a little wary about it.

I'd say that definitely needs professional attention.

The struts may have been replaced and not glassed in properly. If it were me I'd have a surveyer go over it or take a pass.
