Transom mount transducers - tlschneider - 02-09-2014 I have a 2900 Open and wish to upgrade my fish finder to a fish finder GPS chat plotter. I would prefer not going through the hull. Will a transom mont transducer work? Where on the transom should I mount it. A West Marine store manager said to mount it above the trim tabs, but I suspect there would be too much turbulence. Would I be able to mount a transducer inside the hull and shoot through the bottom? Transom mount transducers - Uhehner - 02-09-2014 Shoot thru the hull transducers work pretty well. Put your xducer in a plastic bag of water and set it in different locations in the hull. See where it works the best at speed. If you opt for a transom mount, DO NOT screw it directly to the transom. I have seen too many rotten transoms from this approach. Water leaks in around the screws and rots the wood. Better to glue a piece of 3/4" PVC to the transom gelcoat with 5200 and screw the xducer to it. On a twin engine boat I would suggest mounting it just to the out side of the trim-tab with the xducer surface about 1/4 " below the hull bottom and tilted up slightly forward. Make sure there are no turbulence creating thru hulls forward of this location. You want to have it on the propeller rotation down side. Capt. George Transom mount transducers - Silver Rush - 02-11-2014 Through hull is the best with inboard engines I can chart fish at high speed with my Airmar B744v sounds scary to install but I did one on my 27 open with no issues and just paid to have one put in my new 1996 31 open. |
