3500 Express Maneuverability - Vandarant - 04-12-2020
As We continue to narrow our search I would like to learn how the 3500 Express maneuvers in tight spaces. In multiple areas I have read about the short keel so I would really like to learn some real world experiences.
We have narrowed our search down to a 3600 Open or 3500 Express. Convertibles are out as I am now in my 60’s and I am done with ladders. It seems there are more Express boats for sale in my budget then the Opens maybe that says something about the Express itself. Would like as much feed back as I can get on these two models.

3500 Express Maneuverability - Misdirection - 04-13-2020
I have an older 36 Open (pre-tunnels) and have to come into a lagoon, pivot, and back into my dock with about 6" to spare on each side between the dock and pole. I've docked in 20 knot winds with no issues. My last boat didn't have the same beam and was a bear to dock in the same slip under comparable conditions. I'm really impressed with my Tiara's slow speed handling. I also love the huge cockpit. I can put deck chairs back there for entertaining or keep it open (hence the name) for fishing.

3500 Express Maneuverability - Misdirection - 04-13-2020
I have the Plan A with the U shaped galley. I would have preferred the Plan B.
It's a little cramped in the cabin with my wife and I, a teenager, and a 65 lbs dog!
But we just love the boat. Right now we are 80% fishing, 20% cruising, but hope to see that change in the future with more trips.
I guess there isn't much I would change.

We have a 1998 3500 Express. It has the Cummins 450 Diamond Turbo 450's with about 612 hours. In terms of manuverability, we find it very easy to maneuver using just the engines. Last year we had a very tight slip, and a long Bertram directly in front of our slip. At first, even with a strong gusty wind, my fiance was very surprised how easily we were able to move forward, turn in.place and have plenty of room to head out. We also have a bow thruster which we never used!
Our boat also has a hydraulic swim platform, which extends out 4 feet.
The boat does weigh about 24,000 lbs., and this definitely comes into play while driving and maneuvering her.
