88 3100 access to AC ductwork and speakers behind settee - SlowPoke - 06-03-2020
So it begins. Just took delivery of the new to me 1988 3100. While siting in it today writing up a "to do" list, I noticed the grill for the AC outlet in the salon was out of place. When I went to replace it, I noticed the duct that feeds it had become disconnected from its flange and was just lying down there in the trough behind the settee.
When I went to slip it back where it belonged, I found that a speaker wire was hanging in the breeze. Sooo... I tried to gain access to both. It seems as though the top shelf (where the grill is mounted) doesn't pop up but rather is connected to a piece that runs vertically down the front. When you apply pressure, the two pieces (which form a 90' angle) want to move as one---a little bit but no more.
Wanting to not do any harm, I left it for a later time.
Any suggestions?
Being new to boating, I had expected to find a monitor for the holding tank and the water tank. I could find neither. I assume there must be one somewhere---shouldn't there?
In an attempt to make the boat more family friendly, I'm upgrading the head from a salt water manual flush to an electric fresh water model. Although the head and associated plumbing was replaced a couple of years ago, there is enough of an odor to make you want to keep the door closed. And, after being saltwater for so long, is there any reason to be pro-active with replacing the holding tank? Is the factory holding tank aluminum or plastic? I plan on replacing the hoses once again when it is changed over to freshwater---hopefully this will take care of the odor?

If you have an odor, especially after someone flushes the toilet, there are two things to try. First and easiest is go to any boating store and buy some holding tank deodorizer. Pour it into the toilet and flush it. That will cut down the smell considerably.
If you are still getting a smell, change out the vent filter. If the holding tank was ever over filled sewage will get into the filter and after that it is pretty much done. They are not cheap, but pretty easy to change.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm holding off till the head is changed out along with the hoses and converted to fresh water flush. I will check/replace the vent filter and then we'll see what happens

Make sure and check your vent and make sure its open , otherwise you risk clasping your holding tank , if its not already cracked .
I have just did mine , had a smell, vent was plugged (had to replace it) along with new vent hoses and filter .
also had to change valves as they were frozen and wouldn't move as I had 2 holding tanks . Now its smelling nice with no odor .
