Whining noise when accelerating - waycamp - 07-06-2020

when I accelerate the throttle I get a whining noise which seems to come form the front of the engine.   No noise at idle and I dont have to be in gear for noise to start.   Not sure what it ca be,   Any ideas?  Belts are tight.

It would be helpful to know what boat, motors, and transmissions you have to try and help you out.

If you have 8.1s there is a very distinct intake whistle that occurs as you come up on plane it's caused by the air flow through the throttle body and can be remedied by installing a thin plate between the throttle body and intake manifold. This plate has a small finger that protrudes into the air stream and slightly changes the air flow which cancels out the whistle. They are available through any crusader dealer.

Check to see if the belts are rubbing against the flame arrestor (also look for belt dust on the hatch).

Are they diesels? Turbos whine!

Profile says they have a 2004 29 Open w/Crusaders.

Sorry should have given more info.  They are crusader 5.7 gas engines.    I removed the belt and ran engine for a few seconds and no whine.  I think this rules out transmission pump and fuel pumps.    Seems to be coming from front of engine,  so could be one of the pumps, raw and fresh water.  Alternator?   I was going to change out tensioner as a start.    Has anyone had a whine from the tensioner?  Belts were tight.   Noise just started last trip.
Thanks all....

Feel for any pulleys that may be loose. if there is any play in them there's your culprit. Alternators are known to whine some when the bearings are going bad.

I changed the belt tensioner pulley. Seems to have the done the trick...thanks all
