3100 Open - azarur - 08-22-2020 Hello all. I look forward to getting to know this community. We just got a 2002 3100 Open under agreement. Inspection and sea trials next week. Any advice of non obvious areas to have the surveyor look into would be much appreciated. We are very excited about the boat. Will be our first. It was an extra fee that I opt out of but would pay additional fee for sense of internal engine condition. Good luck! RE: 3100 Open - Sans Peur - 08-22-2020 Welcome to the forum. You don't say what engines you have but get them surveyed. I just purchased a Tiara 50' open (Tiara only made 7 of them) and had 2 surveyors on the boat. One for the hull and all systems and a second strictly for the cat diesels. The hull guy did a great job in finding EVERYTHING that wasn't perfect. The engine guy really saved my butt. He knew Cats inside and out. First thing he did was Bore Scope the engines. When he put the camera in the cylinders he discovered some major corrosion on the cylinder walls and valve seats that were cracked and broken. Saved me $60,000.00 for rebuilds. I renegotiate with the owner and he came off the price $60k for the rebuilt engines. They just finished and i paid them yesterday. Without the engine surveyor that would have been 100% out of my pocket. |
