3900 Sovran questions - Lillikat - 09-08-2020

Hi all, new to forum, new to power yacht ownership (ex-sailor). I have some dumb questions that are plaguing me and are specific to the 2008 Sovran 39.

1. Power source to DVD unit. My 2008 Denon S-101 DVD player does not power on. May be fuse/GFCI related. Assuming it is not, does anyone know where the subwoofer, and for that matter, the amplifier lives?

2. Sea strainers. I can only find 2 in engine compartment. Are there only 2?

3. Replacement for raymarine e120 with backlight out. Is there an easy swap for updated displays or is an entirely new refit warranted?

Thanks in advance
Jon

There are two large strainers and seacocks for the engines. There should also be 2 smaller ones for the generator and the A/C pump. Look close to the units to find them.

In the GPS check with Max Marine Electronics on the web. They sell used/rwbuilt and will also take your unit in and rebuild it. They are good people.

Thanks Sans. Will look into it further.

Re: GPS I'd love to switch out to touch screen units without overhauling entire electronics system. I can prob talk to the max marine guys about that.

Any idea how to find amp/subwoofer in 3900?  Not in owners manual and wiring diagrams are another language for me.

You should have the 2 strainers on the engines, 1 for the genset and another for the AC units. You also may have a thruhull for a raw water washdown that may or may not have a strainer... It's been a minute since I've owned/been on a 39, but if I remember correctly, it was aft of the engines on the starboard side. I believe the Bose system was plugged into 110 behind the unit. You need to unscrew the unit itself to access. I don't recall if this was GFCI.

Again... I'm going off memory, so others may correct me if I misspoke.

Thanks Max

I'll look again for strainers. The previous owner installed a custom fresh water washout for the engines and generator and I wonder if that modified the situation. I see a strainer to port side of port engine and the second aft and between the two engines. I have a denon system and unscrewed it. No power to DVD receiver, just a connection from subwoofer that has power to AC 110. But funny thing is, I cant find that Smile

I can't believe I didn't realize the sea strainers on the IPS-500s are integrated into the motor. Sorry about that. Figured it out. 4 total, 2 integrated, 2 free standing.

Still wondering about the electronics though.

Make sure that the strainers on the motors are the upgraded version. There was a service bulletin around 2008ish as some of them had issues where they would leak all over the alternator causing them to fail.

On our 3900 Sovran, the power to the Denon unit is through the breakers for the outlets in the AC panel. Presume it is just plugged in to 110V outlet behind the unit. Hope this helps.

The 101 unit connects to the subwoofer with a proprietary cable and the L/R channels connect to the subwoofer with Proprietary cables. I have been trying to track down the TV digital audio output into Denon unit with no luck yet. I think the subwoofer is close to the left channel. Will try to track it down and let you know if I get to it.
