Stuck in reverse... - Mario - 10-11-2020 While docking yesterday my starboard engine got stuck in reverse. I think it’s the cable because nothing moves on the engine room while operating the level. Anyway to test it better? Am I supposed to be able to manually shift the transmission in the engine room? Mine is a 95 4000 Express will Cummins Thanks Mario RE: Stuck in reverse... - Sans Peur - 10-11-2020 The cable should move the lever on top of the transmission. If you are looking at the shift lever and some moves the gear levers up top and nothing moves on the trans, I would start with the shift housing on the helm and start back from there. You can shift manually with the lever to get you home but it could get dangerous around the dock. Not planing to do any navigation with current condition. I was Trying to ask if the level should move by hand. It does not, which suggest to me major issue beyond the cable :-(. Bad transmission. Stuck in reverse... - Misdirection - 10-12-2020 I would recommend disconnecting the shift cable from the transmission and have someone at the helm work the lever. Then you can also manually try and shift the transmission. That should help rule out one or another as well. The morose control head has a cast aluminum pivot arm that actuates the cable. On his the casting failed and the gear would no longer shift. Fortunately the controls are setup for dual station so the fix was simple and involved switching the cable to the other side of the arm. Pop the cover off the shifter assembly and take a look. should be obvious if the mechanism failed. If not time for a new cable. RE: Stuck in reverse... - Sans Peur - 10-12-2020 Did you disconnect the cable from the transmission before you tried to move the shifting arm? If the cable is bad or the control is stuck then you aren't going to be able to move the arm with the cable attached. Remove the cable. If the shift arm moves its the cable or morse control. If the arm still doesnt move but the cable does its the transmission. |
