Potential 1997 Tiara 3100 Open buyer in Texas - PCaskey - 01-13-2021
Good day mates. I'm currently looking to purchase a local 3100 Open with Cummins 330 hp diesels. This boat has built in rod holders (4) on the radar arch, something I haven't seen before so just curious if this is the norm. Also, no generator so would a Honda gas generator be a good option to add for overnight stays? I'm located in the Kemah Texas area and plan to mostly cruise with some offshore fishing thrown in when the boys come down to play.

While people do use small portable generators on their boats, keep in mind that when a generator is installed on your boat, the electrical wiring is grounded to that generator. When you use a portable generator, that will not be the case and if you have a wiring issue on your boat, can create a ESD (electric shock drowning) condition.

I have used the Honda Genny for an over night stay before. Didn't have any issues. Put it all the way forward on the bow, kept hatches closed while running of course.

Built in or flush mount on the radar arch is not the norm. Would like to see a pic of that.

My Tiaras have built in. But, if I was to run a separate generator I would not put it on the bow. First it will be right over the master and vibrate like crazy. Second, if you have any hatches not sealing well the potential of carbon monoxide poisoning would greatly increase.
If anything I would put it on the dive platform behind the transom with the transom door closed. Your boat will kost likely be facing into the wind and it will carry the exhaust away with it. Make sure to.leave the front windshield open to keep the stationwaggon effect to a minimum.
