replacing refrigerator on 98 tiara 43 open - trunion@earthlink.net - 03-22-2021
I have a 1998 43 open, I want to replace my refrigerator and freezer, the cut out is 48 1/2 wide, 34 1/2 tall and 26.5 deep, i can not seem to find a replacement with those dimensions, also since i have a inverter, do i need to buy ac/dc or just AC?

In terms of the wiring, it all depends on what you want. If your current one is AC only, wired to your inverter, and you didn’t want to do any rewriting, then you could put any kind of fridge in there you wanted.
If you wanted the fridge to draw straight off the LL batteries and not the inverter, then you would need an AC/DC model. More expensive and a bit harder to find.
Either way, there’s a distinct possibility you’ll have to do a little bit of trim work for a nice, clean, finished look. Take a look at Vitrifrigo. They’re made in Italy and the brand used as OEM by Princess and OE. We put one in our previous boat and it was a REALLY nice fridge! They have both kinds of voltage options.

I went through this a couple years ago. I believe Sub-zero, Viking and Marvel all have under counter refrigerator freezer models that should fit to near the same specs as what you currently have (assuming you have original side by side sub-zeros). I purchased the Marvel pro series and they fit with no cabinet modifications required. I would not recommend Marvel however. I had a defective refrigerator shipped, right out of the box. when I told them it was going into a boat, even though it hadn’t yet been installed, they refused to honor the warranty. Terrible customer service but I digress.
The only install issue you will have is if you want to install the door panel. I think you can get a panel kit on the sub zero but the door dimensions are different so what you have will not fit. I choose the stainless look and it came out very well.
As for power everything I looked at was AC only. You would need to look at the consumption ratings to see if your inverter can supply enough watts. I did not look at vitrifrigo but that is a good suggestion. They may have something that will fit and give you both AC / Dc options. Good luck
