41 Open - Stephen Monahan - 05-09-2021
Hi,
I'm about to close on my first Tiara, 2001 41 Open powered with Cat 3208 DITA, 435 hp. I'll be running to S. Florida from VA, what should I expect for a fuel burn at 2400 rpm. Thank, Steve

Congratulations! Fancy ride for sure. I emailed the great folks at Tiara customer service with my HIN and they sent me a bunch of information including the attached performance report. Mine was for a 4000 Express so "your mileage may vary". Drop them a line after you close and I'm sure they'll send you a few gems too.

If propped correctly fuel rate is approximately 13.5 GPH per engine @2400 RPM. So somewhere around 27 GPH total.

I have a 2000 41 with the same setup (under contract finally, I don't need 2 boats). Real world numbers with the generator running, you can expect 21 mph cruise and right around .6 miles per gallon.
I went to the Bahamas just before Dorian hit and it was 160 miles one way. It took exactly 320 gallons. I will say it was a bit rough crossing the stream so I am sure that cut it down a little. But those numbers seemed to hold pretty close over most of my trips.
One thing to be aware of is the generator pulls fuel from the starboard tank. The pickup tube only goes 2/3 down into the tank so that the generator won't drain the tank overnight and not allow you to run the mains. If you let the fuel get low it will kill the generator.
I loved that boat but the wife wanted bigger. If you have any questions let me know. I pretty much did most of my own work on the boat and know it pretty well.

Wonder why they gave the Express the third “Aux” tank for the gen, but had the gen pull off one of the main tanks on the Open. Interesting...
