Upgrade From PERFECT Trojan 33' w/ Yanmar 6LP's - RWS - 08-23-2021

Owned my 33' Trojan International Express for 20 years.

Repowered with Yanmar 6LP's in 2005/06  and completely refit including Northern Lights genset.

She is perfect in every way.

Looking ahead at age 64 now.

Seeking to go bigger:
  • need easier dinghy management- larger swim platform

  • transom door

  • more galley space & storage

  • ensuite hear(s) with shower door

no Volvo

no POD drives

under 50'

Suggestions?

We just went into a ‘99 4000 Express and love it. Checks everything on your list.

Solid hull or cored?

Wooden stringers?

I know I'm spoiled Smile

If you like the big open cockpit of your Trojan, a Tiara Open would be comparable. Sans Peur here just upgraded to a 50 Open and has his 41 for sale. You might want to PM him with questions if interested.

Hull is solid and I believe fiberglass stringers (unless there’s wood under them and I’m unaware). Regardless, I left a ‘68 Chris Craft with a solid 1” thick hulk in some places and am in no way disappointed with the craftsmanship of Tiara.

You are going to really like the Tiara line. I had a 41 open (sold a month ago) and thought it would be my last boat. Then the wife decided she wanted more room. We found a 50 Open ( very rare, they only made 7 of them) and love the boat. The same attention to detail I had on the 41 is on the 50. Great layout for working on, everything is accessible. I am a big fan.

We looked at the Vikings but couldn't stomach the Mann diesels plus I thought the Tiara interior was much better in layout and finish. The boat rides really well, as did the 41. We took the 41 over to the Abacos and left the inlet with 3 to 5' seas. I locked in the auto pilot and never touched it again untill we were out of the stream and up on the bank. It just ran through like nothing.
I have had the 50 offshore fishing a bunch over the last year and am still impressed with it in all conditions.
PM me if you want any info on either boat.
