New to Tiara and Light on Boating Experience - UpTime - 09-03-2014 Greetings everyone. I just retired and have been looking forward to having the time to thoroughly immerse my self in boating. I just purchased a 2005 Tiara 3800 Open. I'm learning a lot and love it! I'm 59, my wife is 57 and we live in Fernandina Beach Florida. We expect to do some cruising, close by at first, but also to south Florida. I will also be fishing on the Gulf Stream as often as I can. I may cruise to Jupiter and fish from there as well as head directly east from Fernandina. Glad to join the Tiara owners' community. New to Tiara and Light on Boating Experience - ReelMagic - 09-03-2014 Welcome to the Tiara family of Boaters..... We own a 2003 38' Open as well.. We are retired and travel extensively in the NE... This year to Canada for 3 weeks. Next trip is south to the Chesapeake. Following the Chesapeake we will travel east to Newport, Boston, Gloucester, Nantucket, Maratha's Vineyard and Montauk....Home base is Long Island Sound.....Great boat, plenty of room and speed while not to bad on fuel... New to Tiara and Light on Boating Experience - kickstartit - 09-04-2014 Welcome to the group. You have found a great board for Tiara boat owners. My wife and I have owned our 3500 Sovran for about 7 months, like you we are new to all of this. I have gotten a lot of good information from this group and I'm sure you will too. Enjoy your Tiara, Steve New to Tiara and Light on Boating Experience - Uhehner - 09-04-2014 If you are new to boating, I highly recommend that you take a Boating Safety Course. Both the US Power Squadron and the Coast Guard Auxiliary put these courses on and also have advanced courses for members. Go on-line to locate one in your area. Capt. George , USPS Instructor. New to Tiara and Light on Boating Experience - UpTime - 09-04-2014 Thanks to all for the welcome. I'm, new to owning a larger boat, but not entirely new to boating. I owned a 21 HydraSport in the late 90's to early 2000's. Plus I have enjoyed fishing with a friend who owned a 42 and 72 sport fish. I took a Coast Guard Guard Auxiliary Boating Safety Course back in 1999. Good course, good advice. I also hired a captain for three days to help me learn to run the boat and transport it home. New to Tiara and Light on Boating Experience - anthem - 09-05-2014 Congrats on the new boat. The 38 Open is a wonderful boat. We purchased a 2002 a little over a year ago. Love the boat. We are on the West Coast of Florida in the St Petersburg area. The cruising over here is terrific!! Take a trip across the Lake....and see what it's like. You won't be disappointed. The trip from Stuart to Fort Meyers is a great trip in it's self. New to Tiara and Light on Boating Experience - AncientMariner - 09-10-2014 Welcome to the forum and boating. It also turns out we are neighbors almost. I am in St. Augustine on the St. Johns river. Our new to us 94 4000 arrived today from Michigan, but alas too late to get her off the truck today. I have been on this forum since I started negotiations on my Tiara about 3 months ago. This is far from an active forum but not dead yet. My wife and I are returning to boating after 20 years "land yachting" via increasingly larger RVs (just like boats lol). We have a lot of relearning to do but it's pretty much like riding a bike. The rules haven't changed and the idiots haven't changed either. If you haven't explored the St. Johns, it's 300 miles of plenty to see and high on our list of early exploration and practice.. Should you want to make about a 40 mile upriver trip, we have plenty of room at our dock for your boat and the shrimping is just starting right off the dock. PM me if you'd like to compare notes or meet etc. New to Tiara and Light on Boating Experience - anthem - 09-10-2014 Hi Paul...glad to hear you got the new boat. Congrats. I guess the tank issues worked out OK. I have always wanted to do the St. John's river. Please let me know your experiences. I think it would kind of a nice run up to or down to (whatever way it is) Jacksonville. It's on the "Bucket List" We are on the West coast of FL. in the St Petersburg area. New to Tiara and Light on Boating Experience - AncientMariner - 09-10-2014 Hi Anthem. Ended up replacing both side tanks just for peace of mind. Technically Jax is down. When my wife and I were younger we spent as much time cruising as we could, but family and life get in the way of recreation sometimes, hence the land yachting. We spent 20 years travelling the country every chance we got and put about 500,000 miles on while trying to maintain businesses and family and sanity. We are like rolling stones and will find any excuse to travel and I don't see why we can't now do that by boat. Don't rule out us meeting you someplace in between or otherwise. We're crazy enough to also be considering a Loop trip in the next year or two after we have our "sea legs" back. We'd love to find travel buddies when we can, also gives us another excuse to go someplace. New to Tiara and Light on Boating Experience - UpTime - 09-13-2014 Thanks for the welcome and congratulations on your boat! That's a lot of RV miles. Our only RV experience involved a long weekend in a rental unit out of Los Angeles to the Grand Canyon via Los Vegas. Unfortunately the RV had beed unused for several years and we got three flat tires in four days. We're expecting a better experience on boat crises. Thanks for the offer to visit. I sent a PM. |
