New member looking to reporter 3100 open ‘91 - Richtampa - 03-19-2022

Hi All,

Thanks in advance for any help. My name is Rich. I have mainly used sub 25’ vessels in the past, but got a great deal at our yacht club in tarpon springs fl on a slip where we can crash a few nights a week. We purchased a 1991 3100 open. The engines we removed and they put a 20 hp outboard on the swim platform to push the boat (slowly). Initially, it was going to be a floating condo, but I got the bug to take her out. We are looking to re-power with an outboard if possible. Anyone or have any advise? If I am completely off base here, please let me know. Thanks!

You are going to need a good engineer. The transom is not designed to hold the loads placed on it from from a pair of outboards trying to push the boat. All the strength was designed for inboardd and the forces transmitted into the stringers. Plus the bottom with all the running gear and prop pockets are going to cause some major issues as well.

May be easier and cheaper to just put the engines back in.

Also, go to the boat parts section. A guy has a 3100 with Gass engines and transmissions for sale for $5k
