Teak flooring care as well as the hardwood on the walls - sluggo - 10-15-2014 I have a 2006 Sovran with the teak and holly flooring, I am assuming all I need to do is apply some teak oil (starbright?) to the floor and should be good to go. I also have wood on the walls, I think they are sealed with some sort of Polyurethane, so I guess a good wipping is all that is needed? or are the walls not sealed and maybe need teak oil as well?? Thoughts?? TIA Teak flooring care as well as the hardwood on the walls - Uhehner - 10-15-2014 Teak oil will not penetrate into a surface sealed with polyurethane such as your flooring. I would suggest a light sanding with 200 grit paper, a through wipe down and a coat of satin varnish. For inside varnish I have had good luck with Minwax Satin Varnish and a VERY good bristle brush or foam brush. On unvarnished teak I like Watco Teak Oil, both available at Lowes. Apply it with a dust free rag. Capt. George RE: Teak flooring care as well as the hardwood on the walls - Chris Burkard - 12-01-2014 Unless you are repairing a scratch or gouge or completely refinishing, I would refrain from sanding the interior wood either cabin sole, paneling or trim. Yes, they are sealed with a Urethane and Teak oil is just going to make a mess. I would wipe the walls and trim down with Pledge or equivalent. Pledge is going to be very slick if you put it on the cabin sole. I would simply wipe down the cabin sole with a Murphy's oil based soap and water (for wood floors - follow the directions on the product) or equivalent and dry thoroughly. Good Luck! RE: Teak flooring care as well as the hardwood on the walls - jhhall - 12-02-2014 We use Murphy's Oil Soap wipes on both the floor and walls. They are easy to use and do not make the floor slippery. I hope it is a very long time before I touch it with a sander!!! RE: Teak flooring care as well as the hardwood on the walls - Chris Burkard - 12-02-2014 The wipes sound like a good idea! Easier than breaking out a bucket and mop! |
