Slow rolling start - honest mark - 07-20-2022 Was wondering how you guys start your boat, do you turn on generator, then flip power to generator, then start, or do you leave shore power plugged in and start your boat with the power cord plugged in to shore power?? Which way do you think your getting more starting power?? Have cummins qsm11 engines, my port engine slow roll starts and I must use my battery parallel, it does start every time not just as fast as my starboard side, I have all new batteries???? Need a little help or advice, thank you!!! RE: Slow rolling start - MC1600 - 07-21-2022 To answer your first question, it’s start generator, transfer power, disconnect shore power, start engines. But I can’t imagine how any combination of that is affecting your cranking. I’d start by examining the cranking amps of your engine batteries. Just because they’re new doesn’t mean they’re correct. You should not need to use the crossover to start your batteries. Do your batteries have the correct cold cranking amps? Are they properly connected? Is everything grounded correctly? If all that checks out, I’d start investigating your starter. RE: Slow rolling start - Sans Peur - 07-21-2022 Did it always do that or started with the new batteries? I always start the generator first. Mainly because if the engines are running I can't hear it start. I unhook the shore power while the engines are warming up. RE: Slow rolling start - Maxwell - 07-23-2022 We had the same issue where especially the stbd motor on our previous '03 Cat powered 42 would crank slow. I upgraded the starters to a newer gear reduction style and it fixed the issue. Max RE: Slow rolling start - honest mark - 09-20-2022 THANK YOU MAX..... |
