Stern Scuppers on 4100 - Clarky98 - 09-09-2022
Just bought a 2002 4100 Open. One of the immediate peeves is the design of the stern scuppers. There is a depression of about 3/4 inch in front of each one that prevents all the water from draining out. Always have 10x3x3/4 inch of dirty stagnant water that can never get out unless I blast it with a hose but still have residual water sitting in there. Not sure why they would design this. Anyone have ideas on how to address this? Any type of insert available that can be placed there allow full drainage?

I have heard of people filling that area with some silicone sealant so that water doesn't collect in the recessed portion. I think there is thread on it here somewhere.

Thanks....that sound like a ton of silicone though! Maybe I can craft a "box" out of something and silicone that into the void. It just makes no sense why they designed that area to never be able to drain out cleanly.

I'm not positive, but on my 35 Open (since sold), the back decking would drain into those recesses. I don't real if the reason it was lower was so that the groove between the aft decking was at a higher level and would drain overboard.

Had the same issue on my 43' open. I filled the cavern with epoxy (runny) till it leveled with the bottom of the scupper. Then painted it to match the deck color. Solved the problem and was just a bit tacky looking.
