38 Open Winterization Procedures - ReelMagic - 11-01-2022

I developed several procedures to ensure I winterize my 2003 38 Open the same each year and was asked to post those procedures once again recently. See attached.. Hope they help.

Great. I would add that it’s nice to run fresh water through the motor for several minutes first before adding the non-TOC antifreeze. This is accompanied just by closing the seacock, opening the strainer top, and flooding it with a garden hose then starting the motor. Run for 2-3 mins and you’ll have all the salt out.

Thanks for the suggestion and will update my procedures. Actually, I do run the engines on fresh water for several minutes before winterizing w/Non-Tox.  I use the same bucket/hose that I use to winterize with the Non Tox.....I place a garden hose into the bucket and connect the hose from the bucket to the engine or generator strainer and run. Once I feel I've run the engine/generator enough on fresh water I let the bucket empty to the point I can drain the remaining water by taking the small plug out of the strainer and drain the remaining water. Once drained I then fill the strainer/bucket with non-tox and run the engine/generator till the appropriate amount (6 gal for main engines & 3 gal for the generator) has passed through the system. At the end I again drain the mufflers & strainers as the non-tox tends to cloud the strainer glass. Great suggestion and will update procedures. BTW I've given the procedures to friends who have adapted as needed for their use... All seem to be pleased.. M2C
