Hull Delamination Issues - Five Gulls - 03-27-2023 Hello All. I am hoping to guide some feedback on when Tiaras had their hull delamination issues. I am looking at 2000-2005 5200s. Interested in learning more about the issue and what years were affected. Thanks in advace for the assist. RE: Hull Delamination Issues - jclark003 - 03-27-2023 The 5000/5200 had some issues relating to gel coat compatibility with the epoxy hull. It’s not really a de-lamination issue. My understanding is that the bonding agent that was suppose to overcome the incompatibility did not work as well as advertised. Tiara warrantied a lot of bottoms as a result and I’m sure some topside work as well. No idea how many years this went on. My 2001 definitely had the bottom peeled under warranty. If you plan to purchase one it would be a good idea to check its history to see if the bottom was repaired and if it was repaired right. It is an expensive job otherwise. A good surveyor who knows what to look for can be of great help here. I imagine Tiara would tell the current owner if it was warrantied in the past. Also look around the hull sides for cosmetic cracks in the gel coat. They tend to appear around tight radiuses such as corners, swim platform edging and portholes. Not a big deal unless you are a perfectionist. Just something to be aware of. So as not to scare you away, the 5000/5200 is a phenomenal boat, especially in rough water. I have owned a couple of Tiara’s and been out on a lot of different models. These things are well built, well rigged tanks that have very nice accommodations and are easy to drive. If you have specific questions or want to know more about the 52 drop me a PM and I’ll get back to you. |
