Furuno radar removal-opinion - North000 - 03-31-2023
Hello,
I have a Furuno 1621 radar that I've turn on maybe once in 6 years. I'm redoing my dash and was thinking of removing it (yes it works but see no use for it).
I was going to redo paint on arch as well, so getting rid of it now makes sense to me.
Any reason why I should keep vintage 99 radar or just throw it away?
Appreciate your thoughts.

I would just put it on eBay personally, you might have someone who needs it for parts, etc.

Not sure where you boat or what you do with it. I am in FL and use radar for finding birds and watching the summer T-Storms that roll through every afternoon. It is a critical device on my boat. When in the storms it helps me see how deep they are and spot other boats that are running blind in them.

I use mine on Lake Erie when running at night / early morning and if a fog sets in. Just one extra safety mechanism when needed.
A few years ago, a friend whose a charter captain used his to locate a small disabled boat who had issued a mayday and stood by until the coast guard arrived. It was a small bass boat whose main wouldn't start back up, anchor didn't hold (not enough rode for the conditions) and was small enough that it made it hard to see in the chop.

Thanks for feed back. I'm in lake st clair, so very little use.
The more I look at what it going to take to remove cable, the less I'm inclined to do so. May just leave it for a history lesson. Lol

Does anyone know of a quick check to see if the old Furono is working? My manual might as well be written in ancient Greek (with all due respect to those of Greek heritage!)
