Boot Stripe !!! - Matta0413 - 04-25-2023
I am tired of my oxidized friggin boot stripe. Has anyone addressed this issue? New decal? Paint it?

Yes I have dealt with this and evaluated 3 options: re-gel coating in which case I was told you may have the same issues within a few years, paint or use tape. Tape is definitely the cheapest option and I’ve seen some pretty good results when done right. The paint option (I would recommend Awlgrip super jet black) if done right will last a long time and will look beautiful but will cost the most. I’ve never been able to master it but some craftsman can brush Awlgrip with it still looking like a spray finish which saves a lot of time and cost.

I would paint. The trick to a good finish (as is often the case) is in the prep work. Sand till it’s smooth, tape meticulously, then wait for the perfect temp day (think low 70’s, low wind/humidity) to get to painting. If at any point you’re thinking to yourself “I’ve gotta get this done to get back in the water,” you’re rushing it and the finish will look like trash.

I am at the "Get in the water" point now so I will wait until next year. I am thinking I will paint. I have rolled and tipped before and am comfortable doing it. Thanks for the feedback
