3800 Open Battery Switches - twilson0929 - 05-13-2023
I have a 2001 3800 Open. 2 of my 3 battery switches have broken at the switch. Not much room to pull the panel and do anything from under the steps…based on initially pulling it off. And when I remove the panel on the back side from the engine room not a lot of room to undo red cables and pull the old switches there either. Is this the only option? Does the panel under the steps actually come out further than 1” or so? Can anybody recommend a better solution? Right now I have no power to the engines and the interconnect switch has broke as well. House battery switch can’t be far behind. I appreciate any guidance.

I just replaced the one on my 2003 38 Open and it wasn't as bad as it looks....I marked each of the red cables so it would be easy to re-install once the new switch was in place.... Took a little doing to move the wiring looms giving access from the rear panel once removed.. Took 2 people to do the job, one in the engine room and the 2nd in the cabin so switch screws (under the steps) could be removed/replaced... Looks hard but if you take your time isn't. Took 30 minutes I would guess... Need a good socket set (1/4" or 3/8" and Philips screwdriver.. M2C

Great advice, thx! I can see the 2 person issue. Moving the wire packs for access looked tough but sounds manageable. Thx again.
