Open 4100 change from AGM to Lithium? - Clarky98 - 07-07-2023 The AGM's o0n my 4100 open are Northstar AGM31's and NS is no longer in business. The batteries charge up nice but can't hold the charge for more than a couple/few hours with the inverter turned on. Since NS has been out of biz for four years, I am assuming the batteries are older than that. Wondering is a switch to Lithium would make sense. Able to do this without having to change my charging system or is it easier to just replace the AGM's with Interstate or some other brand. RE: Open 4100 change from AGM to Lithium? - hiccup - 07-10-2023 It's definitely easier to stick with AGM. Switching to LiFePo4 batteries will require a full investigation of your charging and electrical system and potential changes to both the alternator/regulator and shore power charger, depending on how it's setup now. With that said, the performance from the lithium-based house systems are night and day better than what you get from a typical AGM install. It's a pain but worth it for those of us who use a lot of energy while away from the dock. It's a big investment either way, so want to make sure I do it right |
