Crusader gas engine crank but no spark - Mydiamond - 10-15-2023

Posting for information…

My port engine started to crank but not turn over.
No spark from coil to distributor.

Checking posts there were suggestion to;
Change coil
Change rotor
Distributor
Change spark plug and wires
Battery
Etc.

When I jiggled the wire from alternator to coil… the engine would sometimes start.

As I took off the distributor cap and traced the wire, there is a small black piece. I think it’s called the distributor pick up. ( not sure) at the base of the distributor.

Took the two screws out and found it was plugged in to the distributor via a wire connection. This plug was very loose.
Tightened connections… replace piece (just in case). And put back together.

Started right away.

$40.00 piece and was not in any of my on line searches.

I hope it helps someone…

Yes, if ECM can't tell engine is turning (due to bad pickup on distributor shaft), it will prevent spark & fuel.
