A light scuff and or light sanding out of scratches usually will do the trick. Dents can be removed by slicing the middle of the dent with a razor / exacto knife. Place a wet towel over the dented area and hit it with a hot iron. The steam will infiltrate the wood and swell it up. Keep moving the rag so you can keep making steam over the dent. Don’t worry about the area turning a little white. Prior to putting down the new urethane, use your exacto knife to clean out the groves between holly strips. Vacuum the whole floor, wipe it down with acetone then a tack rag and you should be good to go. For me it worked best to put the finish down the whole length of one or two boards at a time. Once the finish is down go back and pull a wet brush down the whole length to remove any buildup.
