'86 3600 Open Cockpit Deck - Hooper - 12-02-2024 1986 3600 Open My Cockpit Deck has become soft and needs a new core underneath it. My plan is to cut it out with a angled Feinsaw, recore it with glassed Balsa Core, reinstall it and seal with Lifeseal. Then maybe cover the whole deck with Sea Deck. Has anyone done this project ? Thanks in advance.. Rick RE: '86 3600 Open Cockpit Deck - hiccup - 12-02-2024 I could be mistaken but I believe the cockpit deck is removable in an '86 36 open, which would allow you to re-core from the back and then reinstall. They changed to molding the cockpit deck as part of the liner in the early/mid '90s I believe, which makes re-coring the deck (or replacing the fuel tanks) a much more difficult and costly job. Also, I would not use balsa when re-coring, or you'll be in the same boat, haha, soon. RE: '86 3600 Open Cockpit Deck - Hooper - 12-10-2024 Thanks Hiccup - The deck has an outlined seam to show where you have to cut it, but it definitely needs to be cut. I'm interested in what you believe would be a good core ? I had a 33 Bertram that needed the same work and I used balsa, glassed it on both sides and it lasted for 20+ years until I sold it three years ago. But if there's something better and easier, please speak up. I'm not up on all the alternatives. |
