Alternative Alternators to Balmar - plagasse - 09-16-2025
Looking to replace both Balmar 912-100 alternators (rewind shop said both shot cant repair) - have a newer ARS-5 external regulator but looking for an alternative to the very expensive Balmar's --- as I understand it it needs to be a p-type and most alternators I am searching are n-type any help or direction would be appreciated

I replaced both of mine bought from Tucson alternator in Tucson Az you can tell them what you have they will set them up with either internal or external regulators they were around $300 each and ship same day also us made

N type externally regulated alternators are pretty rare. Any alternator shop should be able to convert an N type to P type.
A good alternator shop should also be able to convert an internally regulated alternator to P type externally regulated as well.
That said, you might be better off going to a simple internally regulated alternator. Tiara opted for the external regulation mostly because they favored gel cell batteries which are very voltage sensitive. With AGM batteries, internally regulated is fine, and much more common and therefore less expensive.
If you decide you want to stick with a high performance alternator that is externally regulated but a little less expensive than Balmar, check out the Arco Zeus line, an A225S should fit.
