I just purchased recently a Sovran 4300 and I was not given but a few instructions on the boat when I took possession. This forum has been great for answering a few but the one I am puzzled with is this. When I open the door in the cabin to start the generator. There is a selector switch that goes from Generator, Off and engine. Could someone please explain what this is for?
When in the Shore power position, you are powering the AC electric to your boat from your shore power cord that is plugged into the pedestal. When in the off position, no AC power is being supplied to the boat. When in the generator position, if your generator is running, power to the boat will come from the generator.
As a side note, you should always put the switch into the off or generator position before unplugging / plugging in the shore power cord.
