Yes they were manufactured with direct drive if ordered with Cummins

I would double check this as I believe the 39 and 43 Sovran's were both exclusively designed for IPS propulsion. They were available with IPS 400 and IPS 500 (which I owned). FWIW the IPS 400 was largely considered to be underpowered.
