depth sounder help - sluggo - 05-11-2015

I picked up my 2006 3600 Sovran on Saturday, and brought it back to its 'home' port.  I noticed the depth sounder was just showing dashes (- - -).  It worked fine last year.  Any thoughts??  I haven't looked yet, but is it a thru hull transducer?  Could there be 'slime' on it and needs cleaned off?? (I am in fresh water)  Or is something else amiss??TIA

How about the wiring to the transducer?  Or the switch/circuit breaker to the transducer?

Assuming you have RayMarine electronics, common to Tiara's of that time period, try this: go to the Sounder Page, select MENU, select Fish Finder Setup, select DSM Settings, select DSM Reset.

This will "ping" your transponder and may correct the problem. This is an issue not entirely uncommon to the RayMarine electronics, and you may have to "reset" in this manner from time to time.

Hope this helps.

I figured this out. I have an 'on hull' transducer (as opposed to a thru hull). In the little housing that it sits in, has to have a liquid. I think the recommend water system anti-freeze (pink stuff, cant remember the chemical name). anyway this has to have liquid in there, if for some reason it leaked out, or if it evaporated, whatever you have to refill. Just twist the top off, pour some in , replace the top, and you should be good to go. it happened to me this year as well, and this is what I did to repair!! Just FYI!!

Hi
I'm a new owner of a used 2016 Tiara Q44 and while preparing for the new season I painted the bottom.  While painting the bottom I was looking for the transponder (to avoid Painting) but couldn't find it.  I know I have readings on my  Garmin display but do not see a traditional transducer on the hull.  Is it build into the PODS or am I overlooking it.  Any advise would be appreciated.
Randy

Some of the transducers are not thru-hull. Look for a box built into the bilge (probably around the engines) with a cable going into it. That will be a "shoot-thru" transducer. They perform pretty well as long as you aren't going to deep.

Hi Randy,

How do you like your Q? I am currently under contract on one. I noticed the the transducer is built into the keel when the boat was hauled out and in the sling.

Any comments on your experience with the Q is much appreciated. Maintenance, problems, defects, etc.

Thank you!

David
