Kicker install on 1990 31 open - remodel4@comcast.net - 03-18-2019

Just bought a 1990 31 open
Has anyone seen a kicker motor on swim step or mounted on the transom.
Any ideas on the size of motor needed to push boat 2 to 4 mph.
I thinking of a Yamaha 9.9 high thrust
I also like the Honda 15 hp
I think mounting on the transom would be better secured, using a jack plate to lower the motor into the water.
The 454'S have been replaced and have only 300 hours.
I don't want to rack up a lot of hours on the big motors
Thanks Doug

I've not seen one on a Tiara, but have on other boats similar in size. I do not think a swim platform will be strong enough to support a kicker. You will likely need a transom mount.

As far as size, you will not be able to get past hull speed (about 6 knots) for your boat. So you need to work with a dealer/manufacturer to determine what size can push you to that speed with out working the motor too hard.

I also have a 31' Open in Washington and have been thinking about a trolling motor. Did you ever find a means of installing one on your boat?

Thanks!

We have a 2700 with a Suzuki 9.9 kicker.. I’d probably go with a 25hp on a 3100 and have seen a few 3100s with 25hp kickers

Hey Scurvy, I realize this is a well aged thread, but would you happen to be able to supply the pics that are now dead in your reply?
