Getting into tiaras - Jimnic - 03-07-2021 Hi all, my wife and I are looking for a 2900 open. We think we have found the right boat but it’s lacking a few things on our punch list. One of them being heat/ac. Can anyone provide an idea as to what it would take to install a factory system on this boat? Even pointing me in the right direction for resources would be great. Things such as what brand, size and what would be involved is super appreciated. It’s a model year 2000. Thanks in advance! Getting into tiaras - bsause - 03-07-2021 Dometic system for that boat is gonna run @ 3800$ at least without labor for install. Not something I recommend you do on your own. Worth the money to hire a good ac / refrigeration co. Just did two new on my 47 and I have 4 units. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk RE: Getting into tiaras - Jimnic - 03-07-2021 Woof! That’s a big number. What size unit is that for? RE: Getting into tiaras - ReelMagic - 03-07-2021 I had Marine Specialists of Ronkonoma NY () do my 1997 31 Open quiet a few years back. Purchased several Ice machine over the years as well. Always a great job at a reasonable Price. Would recommend you contact them. Mention Fred RE: Getting into tiaras - dbriceno - 03-07-2021 Best to find one that has everything major you want factory installed. Heat/AC, Generator, etc. Less problems in the long run and probably less money too. RE: Getting into tiaras - jclark003 - 03-07-2021 Self contained units make the job of installing a new system somewhat easier. That said there is a lot that goes into the job if the boat has not been previously rigged for AC. You would need to pull power from the breaker panel to the unit, power from the unit to the pump, install pump and sea strainer, pull wire and mount thermostat, install a thru hull for supply water, install a thru hull for discharge water, pull hoses from pump to unit to discharge, install duct work and grills for supply and return air. I just added a second unit (self contained) to my helm and even with the thru hulls and pumps already installed it still was a big job. If you are paying someone to do all the work be prepared to write a big check. Dbracino is probably providing good advice in finding a boat with AC already installed. Good luck and hope you find the right boat. RE: Getting into tiaras - Jimnic - 03-08-2021 (03-07-2021, 05:53 PM)ReelMagic Wrote: ) do my 1997 31 Open quiet a few years back. You are super happy with the work? The quote wasn’t cheap. I’m concerned with the long term issues with installing through hull fittings. I agree with this also however we have been looking for a while and have yet to come across a boat with such low hours, decent price and well kept. Am I crazy for thinking that it’s worth it? I’m an avid boater with my whole life experience on the water but am I missing something? Thanks for the input. I feel like I can write a big check for work that’s well done. The boat seems worth it considering it’s near Bristol condition. RE: Getting into tiaras - ReelMagic - 03-08-2021 I used Mike (Marine Specialists) to install A/C on my 1997 31 Open when the boat was brand new as I ordered it w/o A/C as we weren't sure if we needed it and then decided we needed it... Mike installed it exactly as it would have been if Tiara did it when building the boat, including the through hull fittings/valve/strainer.... All good... Not sure what the unit and all the material costs but Mike seemed to be reasonable in 1997. From what I remember the price was close to what Tiara wanted... Also, he's local should you need support. I much appreciated your response |
