Using Shore power for battery charger - jsheerin - 12-10-2021
My 2005 3600 Open is on land for the winter and i am trying to get power to my battery charger. I have 2 30 amp connections on the boat. I thought that if I connected the inputs to the 30amp on the boat to extension cord connected to a nearby outlet, that i would get power to the battery charger. No luck so far. Batteries turned on, breakers on, am I missing something? or is there just not enough power from a 15amp outlet to run the battery charger. As you can tell, I'm far from an expert in this area...

Something is not “on.” I can run dual chargers on 8 batteries off my single 30 amp cord with extension cord adapter, so surely you should have enough. Is there power at the pulpit?

i discovered this weekend that the problem was a bad extension cord. I have one more question if someone would be kind enough to reply. Should i keep the battery chargers on all winter? or should i just run them for a period of time each month? thank you

Mine get plugged in once a month to top off the batteries. Stored indoors in an unheated building in NE Ohio.

Same here. About once a month for half a day or so. Leaving the boat plugged in and chargers on all winter would be a fire hazard. Most marinas won’t let you keep it plugged in.

I just bought an adapter and plug in once a month for a few hours to let the onboard charger do its thing. Boat is on the hard at the marina and there is a plug right behind the boat. I used to run a generator that was in the back of my truck for an hour but so much easier with the adapter.
