I'm looking at a 2001 Tiara 3500 Express. The owner states the Cummins Diamond 6C 8.3 TA Horse power is 407 hp. I thought the 6CTA 8.3 was 420/450 hp. My question is, did Cummins make a 6CTA with 407 horse power?

There was a 400 hp 6CTA motor. Seems like a tight fit for a 3500. 6BTA would be the more expected motor. Both are good motors.

The 3500 Express built '95-'03 was supposed to be powered by 502 Gas.,Cats 435. cummins 6BTA 370 and cummins 6 CTA 420/450. The way the engine room was made, it had room for the large diesels. My question still is if cummins had a 407 horse power engine for the 3500. A 3500 exp. is being listed for sale with 407 hp. cummins.

my 98 has 6CTA CPL 2172, it is a 450hp version.. I dont think it made a 407 hp version, maybe ask for the engine serial number? The 6CTA is a best of an engine, wet sleeve cylinders, 6 in line and easy to work on. If you look at the test results on these engines, the 3500 express can reach 30+ knots at full rpm.

Look on the engine for the CPL number. This will give you the exact answer.... 6CTA comes in different horsepower.
CPL 1282 is 400hp
CPL 1929 is 420hp
CPL 2172 (M3) is 430hp
CPL 8089 (M3) is 430hp
CPL 2960 (M4) is 460hp
