Have a 2003 35 open. Want to tilt helm to diagnose spot light pad issue. I see two hinges on bottom and two 3/8" nuts over top of helm. I tried to turn them but the studs turn with the nuts. Do I have to take head liner down or is there a hidden latch system here?

I'm going to take a guess and assume it's the same as my 2900 Open... Which means the whole thing is hinged at the bottom and held at the top (on the back) with a rubber cup fitting similar to the ones the use on swim platform hatches. To open, I position all four levers to the position closer to me (what would be reverse and zero throttle) to use them as "pulls", grab two on each hand and give a firm tug towards me until the thing opens. Sometimes I ask someone to help me so I can pull on a pair of them and someone else can pull on the other two. It's basically like a suction cup, but it takes a good yank to open.

I think you remove the 2 upper bolts and it flips right back . This may be the best accesed helm consoles in the boating world . I spent 1/2 a day behind mine a week ago . Its actullay a pleasure to get back there .

You don't have to remove the nuts. As Veg says, they are rubber cups that go over rubber plugs. it takes quite a tug (think jerk) to get them popped loose, but once loose the helm will tilt back. I don't know about pulling on the throttles/gear levers, though. Mine has small pockets for your hands that are for that purpose.

Not sure on your model if there are recessed spots for your hands in your helm to tilt it. if it hasn't been moved in awhile the rubber connectors get a little sticky. The best way when this happens is remove your gauge cluster and you will be able to see exactly where to grab the brackets. Before you put it back into place put some type of silicone on the rubber connectors to soften and lubricate them. it may take 2 people pulling to break it free. Good luck if you haven't already gotten it open....PS I wouldn't recommend pulling on the throttle and transmission levers

I believe the 35 Open used the suction cup system, so as suggested above, pull from the top of the helm just in front of the compass (there should be a molded relief where you pull from). The system was designed so that pulling from the wheel, clutches or throttles would not open it up. You have to pull from the top.
