I have a 2014 coronet. The Cummins generator starts up and runs. Once I put a load on it, after about 15 seconds the fuse in the front of the generator pops and won’t power anything, but the generator will continue to run. Not sure what the issue might be here.

Hi,

The 'engine' of the generator will continue to run if a fuse blows on the 'electrical house side' of the generator unit. The engine will shuit down for things like low oil pres, no water flow, etc. Which fuse is blowing? How much load - (amp wise) are you putting on the generator?

Thanks for the reply, Ken. I’m new to using a generator on a boat so I’m still trying to figure things out. I’m not sure exactly how many amps I had going, but definitely a few A/C units and fridges. Once I shut off the A/C units and a couple other things, it ran fine snd didnt pop the main fuse on the generator. My question now, can the generator not power everything in that breaker box? Do I need to watch how many amps it’s powering so that it doesn’t pop the fuse? And how much load can the generator handle?

You should also meter the amp draw in the boat. You can probably do it with the shore power and the amp meter at the panel. Start running everything you normally would and see how many amps are being drawn. If your generator is rated for that many and more check the breaker. They do get weak and will trip easily.
