Inverter Replacement
#1
1989 Tiara 33 Open with a Heart Interface Inverter/ Charger with 2   6 volt deep cycle batteries placed in the cabin under the seats. Charger has over charged and toasted the batteries.
West Marine here in CA has recommended replacement with Xantrex Freedom SW Series Complete Inverter/Charger/ Controller System Bundle, 2000W/100A model, costing $1399.00.

Looking for input if this is the way to go. Current Inverter handles the cabin outlets for coffee pot, tv, dvr and microwave, when used on trips to Catalina Island in place of Genset. At present, with the Inverter offline, I cannot use these devices while on shore power.

Not sure whether to use my general Mechanic who services the engines to do the changeout or, go with an Electronics house/ Electrician to spec the Inverter/Charger, Controller, Batteries, etc.
Mechanic will most likely have me by the package and batteries myself and do the installation.

Your experience and guidance will be appreciated.
thank you!  Mike

I can't weigh in on the specifics of that set up but I'd think what little extra you may pay for a specialist would be worth it for something like that. If nothing else a marine electronics & power specialist would be best suited to answer questions on what's the best setup for your application.
