sooooo was taking the boat out of water for season, tech told me the starboard engine wasnt really lunging when you put it in gear, like they usually do, like the port engine does, got the boat on trailer and very little oil in trans, barely any on dipstick, i did notice about a month ago that it was low, i added about half a quart, nothing on the bildge floor tho, the tech who was driving the boat out of the water said he noticed oil substance coming out of exhaust on starboard side??? he thought maybee a trans oil cooler leak, this boat has been in saltwater its whole life, 16 years, maybee rotted thru??? i have a cummins qsm11 with about 900 hours on it???can you rebuild the trans oil cooler or do you just replace??? approx cost??? is it easy to get at???? thank you in advance....
Not an unusual problem coming out of salt. Easy to find and pull the cooler. Follow the oil lines out of the gear and they should lead you right to it. Have a couple of flare plugs to cap off the oil lines (to keep out contamination). Pull the lines and the water hoses off and have your local radiator shop pressure test to confirm. I would not even think about having it repaired. sen-dure products is where to go for replacement coolers, no queation.
